Director Roland Emmerich later confirmed that he deliberately chose Welsh for that very reason. His role as the Vice-President of the United States in the 2004 environmental disaster film The Day After Tomorrow sparked some controversy due to his physical resemblance to Dick Cheney, who at the time was the real Vice President. In the U.S., the film launches both theatrically and on VOD on July 7. In Canada, the feature comedy will make its broadcast premiere this fall on Bell Media’s The Movie Network. Elevation Pictures is handling domestic distribution while TAJJ Media is handling international sales. The $10 million feature, which is released June 20 on VOD in Canada, is directed by Erik Canuel ( Bon Cop Bad Cop 2, 19-2) and tells the story of a shy 17-year-old boy who teams up with his grandpa and his war veteran crew to save the girl of the boy’s dreams. via a deal with L.A.-based Vertical Entertainment. Indie comedy Undercover Grandpa, produced by Toronto’s CCI Entertainment, has been picked up for theatrical release in the U.S.
